Seneca Data is responsible for the manufacturing and distribution of our low power PCs. Founded over 28 years ago, Seneca Data is a leading U.S.-based Custom Computer Manufacturer and a value added distributor of technology products and associated logistical services. They have an active recycling initiative and take strides to close their manufacturing loop.
PackagingMost packaging can greatly impact the environment, sometimes more so than the product being sold. Leef computers and components are not plastic wrapped and loose wires are not tied with twist ties or bands. Our computers ship in boxes made from recycled cardboard that are 100% recyclable. Our goal is to eliminate all Styrofoam packaging by the summer of 2009, making us the first computer company to ship computers without eco-unfriendly packaging components. Recycling and Re-Use EffortsOur green computers contain metals and plastics that can be re-used, as well as toxic parts that should be intercepted. By recycling your low power PC you can help reduce the need for raw materials and reduce drilling activity. Leef provides extensive information on green computer re-use and recycling options. There are local and national computer recycling centers in the United States as well as a large number of re-use options. Donating your used computer can save money on your taxes and help out those who need it. Our WebsiteOur webhost, Green Geeks, uses wind power for all of their servers, offices and office equipment. They pull power off of the grid and we replace the amount of power they use with wind energy. In fact they replace, with wind power, 3 times the amount of energy used by their servers, so any site hosted by Green Geeks is actually working to help save the environment. All of their green energy use is certified by two independent third party organizations.
Green SoftwareAll low power PCs come with Edison freeware green software. Use Edison to start lowering the power your computer is eating up and lowering your electric bills. The software can be set to follow a schedule, find a health medium between performance and power, and lets you track your saving live on your desktop. Even if you don’t own a Leef computer get Edison free now!
Future GoalsWe have planned out the future steps we can take to close any holes in our green product’s life cycle. Our primary goal is to implement our own Leef-designed green computer case that uses optimal recycled materials, and that can also itself be easily re-used and recycled. We hope to bring this to you within the next year. This will be one of the great steps forward for electronics.
Among other objectives, we aim to further improve the efficiency of our low power PCs by using newer, better hardware as it becomes available. We want to improve the recycling management program through our website, making sure our customers have the best recycling options for their green computer that focus on local recycling and not cross-country or international shipping of computer or parts. The consumer demand will make the future of green computers a reality.
